TRIAD STAGE BRINGS RACING TO WINSTON-SALEM STAGE WITH VROOOMMM!
North Carolina premiere of UNCG professor’s play at Hanesbrands Theatre
January 27 – February 7, 2016
(Greensboro, NC) —Triad Stage bring the fast-paced action of the racing world to life on stage for its first production of 2016. VROOOMMM!, by UNCG professor Janet Allard, swerves and spins around the driving competition, the endearing loyal fans, and the back-road karaoke bars. In the play, Holly “Legs” Nelson is on the move as the first female NASCAR driver. But, of course, all the men say she’s cheating. Hijinks ensue as a cast of six women play everyone from the announcers to the drivers and a surprise racing legend all in the pursuit of high-octane glory in this free-wheeling production. VROOOMMM! runs January 27 – February 7, 2016. Opening Night is Saturday, January 30. VROOOMMM! is presented in partnership with Victory Junction, and as part of that partnership, a portion of the proceeds of the production will be used to sponsor a Triad-area child at Victory Junction camp this summer.
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
“Janet Allard's play VROOOMMM! is hands down the funniest play I have ever had the chance to direct,” says director David Karl Lee. “It was a joy to work on the NY Premiere in 2007 and I never dreamed I would have the opportunity to work on it again. Triad Stage is providing a top notch production with the regional premiere of this play with a stellar cast made up of professional local and NY actors and a stellar design team that is creating a theatrical NASCAR world that is beyond exciting!”
The creative team includes: director David Karl Lee, scenic designer Bert Scott, costume designer Andja Budincich, lighting designers Vandy Wood and Sarah Yates, and sound designer Cory Raynor. The dramaturg is Tamera Izler, Ann Louise Wolf is the accent coach, Denise Gabriel is the movement coach, Jim Wren is the fight choreographer, Cindi Rush is the casting director, and the stage manager is Lindsey A. Moss.
THE CAST
The cast includes several returning and a few new faces to Triad Stage. The cast includes Amy da Luz, who has appeared in six Triad Stage productions including last fall’s Deathtrap; Amy Hamel from the 2013 and 2014 production of Snow Queen, and Tennessee Playboy; and Denise Lute, seen in last fall’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and in Tennessee Playboy. New to our stage are Eliza Huberth and Courtney Moors, as well as University of North Carolina School of the Arts student Emma Kikue who completes the ensemble.
