Creativity Lab — An incubator space that will amplify experimental and non-traditional work, expanding the opportunities for the growth of arts and artists in our community, as well as diversifying the stories that are told and introducing our audience to new ways of storytelling.
The Creativity Lab is distinctly designed to support and foster local artists and arts organizations through a creative residency program at Triad Stage. Projects that push the boundaries of our art form or amplify traditionally excluded groups will be prioritized. The Lab will give smaller arts organizations or artists the opportunity to grow and connect with supporters. Recipients of this residency grant will have two weeks of access to our Upstage Cabaret to develop, hone, or workshop material. The organization will have opportunities to share their work with audiences, creating avenues for feedback, talkbacks, and conversation about the work. We will support their development with consultation with our artistic staff, technical support for lights and sound, social media posts, inclusion on our website, and box office sales. Inspirations for this work come from the successful incubator spaces at Synchronicity Theater in Atlanta and the Orchard Project in NYC. We will begin accepting applications for Creativity Lab participants in Winter 2023 and will award our first residency in Spring 2023.
What are we seeking: A play or piece that experiments with form, or subject matter, or amplifies traditionally excluded voices — including the global majority and LGBTQA+ artists. This project can be pushing your personal artistic boundaries or a foray into a new art form.
This is not an opportunity to secure a venue for a traditional production of a play or performance. (For rental opportunities, contact us for non-profit rates.) The Creativity Lab provides a brave space to develop ideas, experiment, try something new, or pursue a collaboration between different art forms or organizations.
Think of the Lab as a place to seek information about your process, the piece, and the collaboration between artists. You can workshop new work, explore existing work from a new angle, or devise work over the grant period.
How the process works: Triad Stage is in the process of developing the grant application for the Creativity Lab with a planned application launch in Winter 2023. A diverse grant panel from the community and the organization will assess projects for inclusion in the Creativity Lab in Spring 2023.
