In partnership with North Carolina A&T State University, Triad Stage is proud to host the North Carolina August Wilson Monologue Competition. In 2015, North Carolina joined more than ten other cities across the country as sites of this national competition, which seeks to increase familiarity with one of America's greatest playwrights and offers high school students an opportunity to engage first-hand with August Wilson's work and perform it while competing for prize money and a trip to New York City to compete in the national finals.
This year, we’ve partnered with four schools and a teen theater ensemble to offer workshops focusing on the performance of August Wilson's work. Students will compete in a preliminary and semi-final competition on Saturday, January 27th, 2018 at North Carolina A&T State University. Ten finalists will be selected to advance to the state finals, which will take place at Triad Stage's The Pyrle Theater on Saturday, February 10th, 2018 at 3:00pm. The state finals are free and open to the public. Please join us to see incredible performances by local high school students (as well as a guest performance by poet Josephus Thompson III), and to celebrate and spread the work of one of American theater’s greatest writers.
