Troubled by a haunting encounter in his past, lawyer Arthur Kipps hires an actor to help him retell his tale and put his soul at ease. As they reenact Kipps' journey to the desolate Eel Marsh House and the foggy salt marshes that surround it, the stage illusions feel all too real when the spectral Woman in Black appears and seeks her vengeance.
